- Vaccination among Shasta County youth is very low, with fewer than 1 in 5 eligible children (ages 12-17) having full vaccine protection from COVID-19. This lack of vaccination, combined with the more contagious delta variant, is causing an increase in child COVID-19 cases. For students, this means missed school, activities and an unpredictable risk of complications, even among normally healthy kids. More youth cases also mean more chances to spread the virus, including to children under age 12 who can’t yet be vaccinated. Speak with your pediatrician to make an informed decision for your family.
