Last year, during the week of 9/13/2020 - 9/19/2020, 7,978 COVID-19 tests were performed in Shasta County, and about 1.3% were positive. At the same time this year, during the week of 9/12/2021 - 9/18/2021, 10,810 COVID-19 tests were performed in Shasta County, and about 7.6% were positive. While more testing is being done this year, a much higher percentage of tests are coming back positive than a year ago. If we had the same positivity rate now as we did a year ago, those 10,810 tests from last week would have resulted in 141 positives instead of 822.
