We are sorry to report 5 deaths today. They were a man in his 50s, 2 men in their 70s, a man in his 80s, and a woman in her 80s.
The third dose is not a booster shot. A third dose of Pfizer/Comirnaty or Moderna is recommended for immunocompromised people. This is different from a booster shot, which is an additional vaccine dose needed to “boost” protection against COVID-19. At this time, Pfizer is the only approved booster. It is highly recommended for people who are:
- 65 years and older
- residing in a long-term care facility
- age 50-64 with underlying medical conditions

This report includes a weekly update to Shasta County’s total case numbers. Investigations are conducted to verify that cases meet state reporting requirements. Duplicate, out-of-county, and probable cases are removed. Probable cases include people who tested positive on an antigen test and those with reported symptoms but no confirmed lab test.
