Major Crimes

The Investigations Division oversees the Sheriff's Major Crimes Unit, the Property and Evidence Lab, and the Shasta County Marijuana Eradication Team (MET). It additionally works as a liaison with the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force (SINTF), and the North State Initiative California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (NSICAL-MMET).

Crime Lab/Property and Evidence

In May of 2003, the newly recognized "Crime Lab" moved from it's old location on Butte Street in downtown Redding to Breslauer Way, after remodeling the old Shasta General Hospital. The new facility has allowed us to provide a higher caliber of service to the community.

The Shasta County Sheriff's Office is pleased to announce we will sell, at auction, miscellaneous items such as small electronics, computer equipment, household items, cellular telephones, automobile accessories, sporting goods and jewelry. The auction will be conducted on the Internet. Interested persons may view the items and submit their bids by logging onto http://www.propertyroom.com.

 

Major Crimes

The Major Crimes Unit is comprised of eight investigative positions, two sergeants, and a captain. It's primary responsibilities fall under two categories, crimes against people and crimes against property.

The following is a breakdown of staffing designations:

  • Two homicide detectives
  • Two sex crimes detectives
  • Three property crimes detectives
  • An elder abuse investigator funded through an elder abuse grant

The Major Crimes Units works closely with local allied agencies including the Redding Police Department, Anderson Police Department, California Department of Justice and FBI. They additionally attend briefing with Tehama County Investigators and Southern Oregon Investigators to include Siskiyou County. It is the primary goal of the Major Crimes Unit to conduct thorough and comprehensive investigations

Marijuana Eradication Team

The Marijuana Eradication Team (MET) is grant funded through the Office of Emergency Services. It is the responsibility of MET to investigate marijuana cultivation activity within Shasta County. In cooperation with other law enforcement agencies, such as BLM, DEA, ICE, etc. MET conducts investigations related to marijuana cultivation and marijuana distribution/sales cases. These investigations are conducted on both public and private property.

Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force

The Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force (SINTF) is a collaborative effort to reduce narcotics within Shasta County. It is comprised of the Bureau of Narcotic Enforcement, Shasta County Sheriff's Office, Shasta County Probation, Redding Police Department, Anderson Police Department, California Highway Patrol.
