Coroner's Office Mission Statement
The Shasta County Coroner's Office has the duty to conduct complete and objective medicolegal investigations of unattended, violent, unexpected, and suspicious deaths in order to determine the cause, manner, and circumstances of death. This duty is of utmost importance to the deceased individuals and their families, the safety of our community, and the pursuit of justice. This we do with courage, compassion, and great reverence for life.

"Choices of Life" Program
The Shasta County Juvenile Probation Department utilizes the Youth Peer Court System and mandates students attend the "Choices of Life" program, which the Coroner's Office offers. The program is based on the consequences of what may happen with poor and wrong choices during adolescent years. The program utilizes the Coroner's Office to demonstrate the untimely deaths that may occur as a result of these decisions. The programs emphasizes driver safety, underage drinking, drugs, distracted driving, and a variety of other choices that may result in injury and/or death. The program has been very successful and has received positive feedback from parents of graduates and others.
