In the News: The Newly Launched Mobile Crisis Outreach Team

Using funds from our Whole Person Care Grant, HHSA contracted with Hill Country Health and Wellness to manage the newly launched Mobile Crisis Outreach Team or MCOT. The Mobile Crisis Outreach Team, which is staffed be a mental health clinician and a case manager, is available to help people suffering from mental health crises, and the goal is to reduce unnecessary visits to hospital emergency rooms and reduce the burden on 911 and law enforcement.

Local Sobering Center Approved by the Board of Supervisors

Making this treatment option available for those struggling with alcohol abuse has been discussed amongst County officials, law enforcement and emergency room staff for several years. With Empire Recovery Center on board and money from the Whole Person Care grant, the Sobering Center is becoming a reality.

Record Searchlight: HHSA Welcomes a New Health Officer

From the Record Searchlight: Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency has a new health officer. Dr. Karen Ramstrom's first official day on the job was Oct. 14. A military veteran, Ramstrom had been serving in an interim capacity since late July. “I am excited about the opportunity to serve as health officer and be a part of this beautiful community where I have visited family for many years," said Ramstrom. Her brother, who runs general contractor Steelhead Constructors Inc., and her parents, who are retired, live in the area, she said.

HHSA Adult Services Branch Director Dean True recently published a letter to the editor in the Record Searchlight: "We successfully treat drug addiction with medication." In the piece, he discusses how addiction is a medical issue rather than a character flaw as well as how HHSA is leading efforts to expand Medication Assisted Treatment like Methadone and Suboxone.
