Provider News Summer 2016 - Unwanted medication

More than a half-ton of unwanted medication disposed in new kiosks during first six months

Shasta County Public Health has collected 1,202 pounds of unwanted medication in its new drop-off kiosks during the first six months.

About two in three people who abuse prescription opiates get them from family and friends. Please encourage your patients to dispose of unused or unwanted medication at the new kiosks, located outside of the Redding Police Department, Anderson Police Department and City of Shasta Lake Sheriff’s Office, and inside the lobby at the sheriff’s office in Burney. These kiosks cannot be used by medical offices or other businesses.

Our thanks to Redding East Rotary, Anderson Rotary, Anderson Lions Club, Anderson Kiwanis, Burney/Fall River Rotary, Shasta County Chemical People, A Sobering Choice Coalition, Redding Police Department, Anderson Police Department and the Shasta County Sheriff’s Department for their partnership in this effort.
