The economic burden of chronic diseases in Shasta County

The annual morbidity and mortality report shows which diseases are most common in Shasta County.

More than half of Americans are believed to suffer from one or more chronic diseases, and the estimated cost of medical services for treating these conditions exceeds $1 trillion annually nationwide. The rate is expected to increase annually. The Affordable Care Act offers an opportunity to address those challenges by expanding prevention services.
