Shasta County reported 3 flu deaths in 2020 compared to 78 from covid 01/07/2021

Published January 8, 2021

As the pandemic wears on, some in Shasta County continue to shirk COVID-19 precautions, falsely asserting the virus is no more dangerous than influenza.

Deaths data reported by county officials in 2020 shows how off that claim is: 78 deaths from COVID-19 were reported in the year, compared to three from the flu. (Three flu deaths in a year is about average, if not slightly higher.)
