‘Shasta County is open’: Leaders respond to reopening rally outside Board of Supervisors chambers 08-13-2020

Published August 14, 2020

Residents and business owners rallied outside the Board of Supervisors chambers at Tuesday’s night meeting to demand Shasta County lift coronavirus closures. But while county officials said they support the right to dissent, they noted it's the state — not local government — behind the health guidelines under fire.

"Our local health officer has not made any restrictions over and above what the state of California has, so we are doing all that we can to keep the county as open as possible," Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency Director Donnell Ewert said.
