Water Testing

Man testing water The Public Health Lab is certified by the Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP), and able to test for and detect the presence of harmful bacteria in private or public drinking water.  The test methods are able to differentiate whether water contains soil or fecal contamination.

Bacteriology testing and typing for agents of waterborne disease, such as E. coli 0157:H7, are a few of many transmissible and dangerous bacteria that can be detected.

Fees for Water Testing (payable by cash or check only). Testing rates are changing on April 1, 2022. See rates below. Water samples accepted for testing Monday through Thursday.

  • Drinking water, standard Colilert test: $27 (increasing to $31 on April 1, 2022)

  • Drinking water, 51-Well Quanti-Tray: $35 (decreasing to $34 on April 1, 2022)

  • Surface Water, Quanti-Tray 2000 - $36 (decreasing to $35 on April 1, 2022)

Water testing kits are available at all regional offices as well as our main office. 

NOTE: Due to cancellation of local next-day U.S. Mail delivery, all water samples must be delivered in person or sent overnight delivery by FedEx or UPS. Samples cannot be sent through U.S. Mail.
