In-Home Supportive Services

As a precautionary measure, in an effort to prevent the increase of COVID-19 in Shasta County, effective March 20, 2020 at 8:00 a.m. The In-Home Supportive Services lobby will be closed. Our services will continue as outlined below:

  • Questions related to your IHSS case: At this time, social workers will continue to provide regular services and may be reached by phone or email.
  • General IHSS Questions and Timecard or Payroll Questions: Our clerical department is operational and the public may continue to call for assistance.
  • Receiving Payment: Per the California Department of Social Services, timesheets will continue to be processed in a timely manner and payments for these timesheets will not be delayed.  The IHSS Service Desk will remain open and operational during this time for all recipients and providers.
  • Provider Orientation: Limited to 10 to provide social distancing. Providers who wish to attend orientation must call 225-5507 to schedule an appointment. The participant will be the only one admitted to orientation. Anyone not scheduled will not be admitted, including children. If you are not feeling well the day of the orientation, please do not attend. As always, please bring a valid photo ID and social security card with you to orientation.

What is In-Home Support?

HandsIn-home supportive services are available for people who are aged, blind or disabled, can not perform activities of daily living and cannot remain safely in their own homes without help. We work with local caregivers to ensure that these people are able to remain in familiar surroundings – safely, comfortably and with as much independence as possible.

Types of Support

Recipients may receive assistance with daily tasks, such as:

  • Bathing
  • Dressing
  • Cooking
  • Cleaning
  • Grooming
  • Feeding

To find out if you are eligible for services, call 530-225-5507 for an application or download one here. To be eligible, an applicant must:

  • Be a California resident and reside in his/her own home
  • Be age 65 and over, blind or disabled
  • Be receiving Medi-Cal benefits
  • Have low income as set by SSI/SSP standards (if a person's income exceeds SSI/SSP standards, there may be a share of cost)

Anyone who recognizes that a person is in need of in-home assistance may refer someone to our program. A social worker will conduct an assessment to determine the applicant’s need based on medical condition, living arrangement and resources available.

Approve your IHSS Timesheet Online or by Phone

The Electronic Timesheet System (ETS) is available for you to review, approve or reject timesheets that have been submitted online by your provider. The Telephone Timesheet System (TTS) will call you when a timesheet for your services has been submitted online by your provider. You only need to sign up for one system so select the one that is best for you.

To sign up for electronic timesheets you will need: Your IHSS case number, your valid email address and your social security number. Both you and your provider may enroll at the ETS link above.

To sign up for the TTS you will need your case number and a recipient authorization number (RAN). Call the county to set up your RAN at (530) 225-5507.

Both systems will provide the following information:

  • The IHSS pay period
  • The provider who submitted the timesheet
  • The daily time reported on the timesheet

If you need help or have questions, please contact the ETS and TTS Help Desk at: 1-866-376-7066

Finding a Caregiver

If an applicant is eligible for services, we can assist you with locating a caregiver through our registry of caregiver providers. A friend or relative may also serve as your caregiver. Once you have selected a caregiver, you will act as your caregiver's employer by supervising tasks and signing time sheets. We will arrange for your caregiver's payment.
