Unlawful Detainer Assistant


  • An Unlawful Detainer Assistant (UDA) is any person who for compensation renders assistance or advice in the prosecution or defense of an unlawful detainer claim or action, including any bankruptcy petition that may affect the unlawful detainer claim or action.
  • State law requires UDA's to register with the County Clerk in the county where their principal place of business is located (deemed primary registration), and in each county in which they are providing the services (deemed secondary registration).
  • An application for secondary registration must meet all the requirements except it shall include a certified copy of the bond or cash deposit posted in the primary county.
  • A UDA's registration is good for 2 years and qualifies for renewal within 3 years after expiration.

Registration requirements:

Applications are accepted Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Payment may be made by cash, preprinted checks, or money orders made payable to Shasta County Clerk. Credit or debit cards include a small convenience fee.

Completed applications must be reviewed for approval by the County Clerk, allow 5-10 working days for notification.
