Shasta County welcomes new Agricultural Commissioner

The Board of Supervisors has appointed Rick Gurrola as the new Shasta County Agricultural Commissioner/Sealer of Weights and Measures effective June 9, 2019.  Learn about the County's Agriculture department here.

Updates on homelessness, social services, and law enforcement

On April 23, 2019, the Board heard presentations regarding solutions for issues including homelessness, social services, and low-level crime.  The Board directed staff to look into solutions and designated Shasta County District Attorney Stephanie Bridgett as coordinator of a work group to facilitate collaboration between law enforcement and health and human services.

Board moves forward with new location for Burney Library

Members of the Friends of the Intermountain Library (FOIL) and Burney community attended the Board of Supervisors meeting on April 16, 2019, to request that the Board take action regarding a new home for the Burney branch of the Shasta County Library.  By unanimous vote, the Board directed staff to begin development of a purchase agreement in order to move forward with purchase of a new building for the Burney Library.

Proclamation Coroner Appreciation

The Board of Supervisors proclaimed January 27 through February 2, 2019, as Coroner and Medicolegal Death Investigator Appreciation Week.  The proclamation honors the County's "Last Responders" who perform a duty of utmost importance to families, the safety of our community, and the pursuit of justice.  Read the staff report here.

Swearing In 2019

At the first Board of Supervisors meeting of 2019, Shasta County's elected officials took their oath of office before a full crowd of family, constituents, and friends.  The County welcomed new Supervisor Joe Chimenti, District One.


Board of Supervisors approves agreement for Sobering Center

At the December 11, 2018 meeting, the Board of Supervisors approved an agreement with Empire EHARC, Inc., d.b.a. Empire Recovery Center, to provide a Sobering Center Fee-For-Service program.  This agreement will allow Empire to open and operate a Sobering Center to help individuals experiencing active intoxication in accessing a path to recovery, and as an alternative to incarceration or hospitalization.  Read the full staff report here.

Shasta County's collaborative STEP-UP Program wins award

Representatives from the California State Association of Counties (CSAC) recently presented a Challenge Award at the December 11 Board of Supervisors meeting for Shasta County's Shasta Technical Education Program-Unified Partnership (STEP-UP) for best practices.  The program provides an opportunity for offenders to make changes in their lives through education and technical certificate programs.  Read the staff report here.
