Neil Shaw is a real estate investor and a Redding resident, who helps his wife Kim raise his three step kids. He's an artist specializing in portraits and tropical oil paintings. He is a retired law enforcement officer, having spent most of his career with the Monterey Sheriff’s Department before moving to Shasta County.
Over the years as a deputy, the ugly domestic violence situations, encounters with dead bodies and other high stress incidents added up and led to Neil being diagnosed with accumulative Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder. Today, with the help of therapy, prayer, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and other supports, Neil has learned to manage the PTSD symptoms and greatly improved his mental and physical health. He shares his story of recovery to community groups and classes throughout the county with the goal of helping people in high-stress jobs avoid having the problems he did.
