David’s interest in advocating on behalf of the LGBTQ+ community sparked in the early 1990’s while working as a Media Supervisor in the advertising industry in San Francisco.
Shortly after relocating to the north state in 2003, David began volunteering at the Shasta-Trinity-Tehama HIV Food Bank. Seeing a dire need for helping the HIV community access quality care and services, he co-founded the Shasta County HIV Advocacy Group, which provided a voice and direction for under-served individuals.
In 2008, David joined a small group of grass root visionaries to the NorCal OUTreach Project, a non-profit organization geared toward fostering LGBTQ+ well-being and pride in identity. During David's six-year tenure as Board Chair, he provided leadership to a highly motivated Board that planned and successfully executed annual Pride Festivals, LGBTQ+ Prom, National Coming Out Day events, World AIDS Day celebrations, political demonstrations and anti-hate crime rallies. In addition, David was instrumental in getting the very successful weekly LGBTQ+ and ally support group, weekly HIV support group, and bi-monthly transgender support group underway.
Currently, he continues to manage the HIV Food Bank operations, lead Chronic Disease Management classes through Shasta Community Health Center, and speak publicly through Brave Faces and the Positive Speaking Program about his personal experiences with mental health, addiction, and being HIV positive.
