Get vaccinated

Flu vaccine is recommended for all Shasta County residents six months of age and older. Visit your health care provider or one of the many retail locations that offer the vaccine, including drug stores and grocery stores. Vaccine is available during immunization clinic hours at Public Health's main office on Breslauer Way and at its regional offices in downtown Redding, Anderson, Shasta Lake and Burney. Call 225-5591 or 1-800-971-1999.

Flu shots are $10.

Who needs a flu shot?

People at highest risk for seasonal flu are:

  • Children age 6 months - 18 years
  • Pregnant women
  • Adults 50 years and older
  • Persons of any age with certain chronic medical conditions
  • People who live in nursing homes and long-term care facilities
  • People who live with or care for those at high-risk for complications from flu, including: health care workers, household contacts of persons at high risk for complications from the flu and household contacts and out-of-home caregivers of children less than 6 months of age (these children are too young to receive flu vaccine.)

Who needs a pneumonia shot?

Seniors, people of all ages with certain health conditions and smokers should also receive a pneumococcal vaccine ("the pneumonia shot"), also available at the above locations.

Who needs a whooping cough booster?

Because of California's whooping cough epidemic, the whooping cough (pertussis) booster shot, called Tdap, will also be available at flu vaccine clinics this year for people age 10-64 (or seniors who have frequent contact with infants) if they have not had a pertussis booster in the last two years. Learn more here.
