What do we want to create?

The Shasta County Family Justice Center will bring effective short and long-term solutions to
victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child abuse and elder abuse. The Center will offer
an innovative approach to victim support by housing a multi-disciplinary team of professionals
under one roof. This will reduce the amount of time and number of places victims have to
travel to tell their story and get the help they need. Our goal is to be fully operational by fall
2010.

Why is this needed?

There are hundreds of very dedicated, compassionate professionals currently assisting victims
of violent crime in Shasta County. However, many of the victims who seek help find the
current system overwhelming. They are often required to travel from agency to agency
throughout the county, an area of almost 3,900 square miles. These brave individuals must
repeatedly tell their story to get the services they need, which may include protection, legal
assistance, medical, housing, shelter, food, transportation, mental health, financial services,
social services and other assistance. At a time when they are already in crisis, this crushing
experience can often send the victim back to an abusive environment, risking the family’s
overall safety.

What are we doing now?

  •     Strategic planning for the Center
  • Seeking additional partnerships
  • Coordination of existing services
  • Solidifying funding sources Creating stable governance
