Captain Mike Ashmun
Captain Mike Ashmun has over 25 years of experience in law enforcement. Mike was born and raised in Shasta County; Mike started his Law Enforcement career in 1982 as a Redding Police Cadet and was hired as a Deputy Sheriff with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office in1984. Mike was assigned to Major Crimes in 2003. Mike promoted to Sergeant in 1997, to Lieutenant in 2006, and Captain in 2009. He has held numerous collateral assignments including, Field I. D Tech, Field Training Officer, Coordinator and Manager, a C.E.R.T. team member, team leader and manager ,a SWAT team member, and as a Marijuana Eradication Team Member. In 2005 Mike was assigned to the services division, and had the responsibilities as the Sergeant in charge of the Personnel Assistant, Training Coordinator as well as the Training Cadre’ and the range. Mike has worked in the Custody Division as a Deputy, Sergeant and Lieutenant, in Patrol Operations as a Deputy, Sergeant, Lieutenant, and is current the Patrol Operations Captain... Mike has an Associate of Arts degree in Administration of Justice and is a 2000 graduate of Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute.
Lieutenant Forrest Bartell began his career with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office in 1988 as a Reserve and worked as in the Boating Safety Unit before becoming a full-time Deputy at the Jail in 1990. He transferred to Patrol in Burney in 1992 and has held collateral assignments as Range Instructor, Dare Instructor, COPPS Officer, Coroner, K-9 Handler, and liaison with the Women’s Refuge Domestic Violence Program. In 2000 Forrest was promoted to Sergeant assigned to the Jail and later transferred back to Burney as Patrol Sergeant. He is the K-9 Coordinator, Chief Range Master, Training Cadre Coordinator, and has been the Patrol Lieutenant in Burney since 2007.
Captain Sheila Ashmun has been employed by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office for 20 years. She began her career as a deputy in the Custody Division. Her duties included Classification Officer, Jail Training Officer, and Watch Commander. She transferred to the Patrol Division in 1997 where she worked until she became a detective in 2000 and moved to the Major Crimes Division. She promoted to Sergeant in 2003 and transferred to the Custody Division as a shift Sergeant and then Administrative Sergeant. In 2004 she transferred to the Patrol Division as a shift Sergeant. In 2006 Sheila transferred to the Civil Division as a supervisor before she promoted to Lieutenant in 2007. As a Lieutenant Sheila was assigned to the Custody Division as the Facility Manager. In 2010 she transferred to the Major Crimes Division as the director of Cal-MMET. Sheila has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business and Management with a concentration in Human Resources. She is a graduate and subsequent auditor for the P.O.S.T. Supervisor Leadership Institute academy. She has recently been accepted into 2010-11 Leadership Redding. Sheila has been involved in the Sheriff’s Office Hostage Negotiations Team, Peer Support, Organizational Improvement Team, and Recruitment Team. In 2010 Sheila was promoted to Captain and assigned to CSL Patrol Division.
Captain Van Buskirk has over 30 years of law enforcement experience, having begun his career with the Redondo Beach Police Department in January 1974. Since August 1982, he has served with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office. Don spent two years as a Patrol Sergeant and began his assignment in the Custody Division’s new jail in 1986, supervising and managing the Main Jail, Detention Annex/Work Release, and Crystal Creek. Captain Van Buskirk possesses an Associate Arts Degree in Police Science.
Captain Jeff Foster
Captain Foster has served with the Shasta County Sheriff Office since 1991. He has worked in Patrol, Custody, Boating Safety Unit, and Investigations. Jeff was promoted to Lieutenant overseeing the California Multi-Jurisdictional Methamphetamine Enforcement Team (CAL-MMET), the Marijuana Enforcement Team (MET), and is the liaison with the Shasta Interagency Narcotics Task Force (SINTF). Jeff is a graduate of the Supervisor Leadership Institute (SLI) and has been honored as Deputy of the Year and Sergeant of the Year.Jeff was promoted to Captain in 2010 and is currently assigned to the Major Crimes Division
Lieutenant Mark A. Lillibridge has been with the Sheriff’s Office since 1991. He began his Law Enforcement career in 1988 as a Police Officer for the City of Los Angeles after serving as a Military Policeman in the United States Army. Mark has worked in many Sheriff’s Office Units. With the Custody Division, he was Deputy, Jail Training Officer, Shift Supervisor, and Administrative Sergeant. In the Patrol Division, he served as Lakehead Resident Deputy, D.A.R.E. Instructor, and Supervisor of the Youth Services Unit. In the Boating Safety Unit of the Services Division, he was Lake Patrol Deputy, Watch Commander, Search and Rescue Coordinator, Dive Team Leader, and Sergeant. In the City of Shasta Lake Division, Mark was Patrol Deputy, Field Training Officer, D.A.R.E. Instructor, Traffic Enforcement Officer, and Patrol Sergeant. Lillibridge was promoted to Lieutenant in 2009 and is the Chief Deputy Coroner for the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office.
Captain Dave Dean began his career with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office in 1980. His previous assignments have included Search and Rescue Coordinator and Dive Team Leader. Dave is currently Captain of the Services Division, overseeing 9 Search & Rescue teams, comprised of 260 volunteers, and a 14 person Overhead Team. Dave’s responsibilities include emergency planning, disaster preparedness, training, disaster response, and coordination of Search & Rescue, Dive Team, Explosives Unit, Boating Safety Unit, Homeland Security, Records, Hostage Negotiations, SWAT, and Personnel.
Lieutenant Anthony Bertain has been in law enforcement for 17 years. He began his career in 1991 with the Trinity County Sheriff’s Office and was hired by the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office in 1999, assigned to the Burney Station as a Deputy. In 2001, he was assigned as a Detective for Major Crimes and continued to work out of the Burney Station. While investigating major crimes, he handled sex crimes investigations, homicides, and other crimes against people. In 2004, he went back to Patrol and was promoted to Sergeant in 2006. Anthony has been a member of the SWAT Team since 2001 and is currently the SWAT Team Leader. In June 2008, he was promoted to Lieutenant and assigned to the Office of Emergency Services.
