Mission

To protect our community from the harmful health and economic effects of tobacco and second-hand smoke.

Purpose

The Shasta County Tobacco Education Coalition is an alliance of community organizations and individuals collaborating on the common goal of tobacco prevention and health promotion. Its purpose is to (1) advocate for policies that regulate tobacco in the Shasta County area; (2) collaborate with adjoining cities, business communities, public health agencies, churches, schools, and community-based organizations; (3) serve as an advisory body to the Shasta County Public Health (SCPH) Tobacco Education Program (TEP); and (4) assist in program development, implementation, and evaluation of the local tobacco control plan throughout the Shasta community.

Focus Areas

  • Promote tobacco-free outdoor family events
  • Decrease smoking among pregnant women and parents of young children
  • Reduce childhood exposure to secondhand smoke
  • Promote tobacco cessation services throughout Shasta County
  • Promote tobacco education and cessation services to underserved and diverse populations
  • Support schools in providing tobacco cessation services for youth
  • Annually promote the American Cancer Society's Great American Smokeout in November
