test tubesThe Shasta County Public Health Laboratory is a state-of-the-art regional facility dedicated to protecting the health of communities. It is the Public Health reference laboratory for Shasta, Modoc, Siskiyou, Lassen, Tehama, Glenn, and Eastern Trinity Counties. Our facility has advanced and specialized testing capabilities to detect agents of infectious disease and other threats to public health. The laboratory is staffed with highly trained, experienced, and California State certified Public Health Microbiologists and support staff.

Laboratory services include but are not limited to:

  1. Bacteriology testing and typing
  2. Tuberculosis Testing
  3. Rabies Testing
  4. HIV Testing
  5. Sexually Transmitted Disease Testing 
  6. Water Testing
  7. West Nile Virus Testing
  8. Respiratory Virus Testing

The laboratory is certified by the Environmental Laboratory Accreditation Program (ELAP), and able to test for and detect the presence of harmful bacteria in private or public drinking water. The test methods are able to differentiate whether water contains soil or fecal contamination.
