girls brushing teethThe Shasta Healthy Smiles Oral Health Program offers children at Shasta County Preschools in-class tooth-brushing and/or fluoride at no cost to their families. This program provides young children and families vital dental care information and training to help fight dental disease.

Community educators schedule class visits to give the preschool children dental care education, including the proper way to brush their teeth, use of dental floss, and recommended healthy snacks. It is important for children’s families to be familiar with information their children have gained through this program to encourage them to continue oral health practices at home.

Similar information sessions are also provided for parents; however, we recognize the time constraints that busy families face and the difficulty in squeezing one additional appointment into their schedules. Consequently, Shasta Healthy Smiles has developed an on-line parent presentation – it will be helpful to you in understanding the need for and benefits of our oral health program, and in providing recommendations for your child’s dental care at home.

When you have finished watching the presentation, please e-mail Megan Johnson with your response and enter your name, your child’s school, and any questions or comments you might have. An Oral Health Program community educator will be glad to respond.

Thank you for your interest and support of the Shasta Healthy Smiles program in our community!
