The Shasta Breastfeeding Support Center is a cozy and inviting place for anyone to visit and receive help or information about breastfeeding. As mothers and trained breastfeeding professionals, staff understands the deep need to provide assistance to breastfeeding women, their infants and families. The Center provides or refers to necessary services to help mothers feel supported, cared for and loved during this important time in their lives. Up-to-date and accurate breastfeeding information helps to give mothers the confidence to continue breastfeeding well into the first year of their infant's life. Services:
- One-to-one breastfeeding counseling with a board-certified lactation consultant, provided free of charge.
- Breast pump referral program to assist mothers in locating a breast pump for rent or purchase. Click here to find out how to rent a pump.
- Telephone assistance to answer brief questions and evaluate the need for a comprehensive consultation. Call (543) 245-6466.
- Breastfeeding videos covering various aspects of breastfeeding are available for loan to health care professionals and to individuals.
- Breastfeeding resource books are available for loan or to read at the support center.
- Referrals to various agencies within Shasta County to assist new mothers and their families with additional services.
- Technical assistance for businesses or employers who are interested in providing a breastfeeding friendly area for their employees or customers.
Who Is Eligible To Receive Services At The Breastfeeding Support Center?
- All mothers in Shasta County.
- Support people, including fathers, grandparents or anyone else who will be supporting mom's decision to breastfeed.
- Medical Staff, including physicians, medical office staff, hospital staff, nurses, childbirth educators, lactation professionals and paraprofessionals.
- Community members who have an interest in the promotion of breastfeeding within our community.
- Employers interested in becoming a breastfeeding friendly business.
