Protected Health Information at Public Health
Commonly referred to as HIPAA, the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, which took effect in April 2003, requires health providers, insurance companies, and pharmacies to limit disclosures of patient medical information. HIPAA, in its purest form, would prohibit disclosure of any identifying information, but there's a caveat to release information if it protects the public's health.
Shasta County Public Health is committed to protecting the health and safety of our residents. We strive to provide quality service while maintaining the privacy and confidentiality of clients. Public Health observes standard confidentiality protocols and will not release any identifying information to compromise the privacy of individuals involved in any health-related investigation.
