The three programs of this division focus on assuring the health of Shasta County children through community education, preventative health screenings for all who are Medi-Cal eligible, and therapy and case management services for children with certain physical disabilities.

  • Child Health and Disability Prevention (CHDP)
  • California Children Services (CCS)
  • Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (CLPPP)

Kristen LoganRegional Services - Public Health
Kristen Logan, RN, PHN, Manager

Regional Services deliver eligibility, employment, mental health and public health services to clients conveniently in the communities where they live or work. Regional services provide a safety net for those who are vulnerable, and develop the potential of our clients, especially children. Public Health services include:

 

  • Public Health nurses who provide immunizations, health education, communicable disease investigation and follow-up, support and referrals for families, and resources to community medical providers
  • Food Stamp and Medi-Cal outreach and application assistance
  • The Women, Infants and Children (WIC) Nutrition Program
  • Breastfeeding support and parenting classes

 

Dave MaronCommunicable Disease and Emergency Preparedness

The division is focused on preventing and controlling communicable diseases, and developing community-wide systems to prepare for health emergencies. Division staff are involved in the following activities:

  • Laboratory testing
  • HIV/AIDS awareness
  • Disaster preparedness
  • Communicable disease investigation and follow-up 
  • Immunizations and flu shots
  • Sexually transmitted disease diagnosis, treatment and follow-up
  • Central reception and clinic services
  • Tuberculosis screening, investigation and monitoring treatment compliance      

Gloria Espinosa HallHealthy Communities
Gloria Espinosa Hall, MPH, RD, Manager

This division works to create and promote environments that support the prevention of obesity and chronic disease. Using education, community engagement and advocacy to foster healthy lifestyles, our programs include:

  • Community and School Gardens
  • Healthy Community Design
  • Healthy Eating Active Communities (HEAC) Initiative in the South County
  • Healthy Shasta Collaborative
  • Healthy Students Initiative and School Wellness
  • Physical activity promotion and the SPARK program
  • Nutrition education and promotion of farmers' markets
  • Safe Routes to School programs
  • Worksite Wellness

Kathey KakiuchiHealthy and Safe Families
Kathey Kakiuchi, Manager

The mission of this division is to encourage optimal child health, development and safety, and prevent tobacco, substance abuse, and unintentional injury through community education, policy development, and assurance of quality health services. Programs include:

  • The Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health Program including oral health, SIDS, case management, community education and the prevention of child maltreatment
  • Substance abuse prevention (alcohol and other drugs)
  • Tobacco education and cessation
  • Senior health promotion
  • Injury prevention (Traffic, bicycle safety and care seat safety, DUI and underage drinking prevention)
