Assistance

CalWORKs:
CalWORKs provides temporary cash assistance for needy families. Parents and caretaker relatives are required to participate in welfare-to-work activities for 32-35 hours per week. The program offers supportive services to clients including child care, transportation and other services necessary for a successful transition from welfare to work. Recipients of cash aid must participate in work or work-related activities for a specified number of hours per week. For more information: CalWORKs Program


County Medical Services Program (CMSP):
Individuals ages 21-64 who have incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty level and who are not eligible for Medi-Cal benefits could be eligible for CMSP benefits. If you are a single parent with minor children, have minor children and have become unemployed, receive Social Security Disability, are pregnant or feel that you are disabled, you should apply for Medi-Cal benefits. The county will determine which programs you may qualify for. For more information:

Food Stamps:

The Food Stamp Program is a federally funded program that helps low-income people buy the food they need for good health. For most households, food stamps are only part of their food budget; they must spend some of their own cash along with their food stamps benefits in order to buy enough food for a month. Food Stamp Employment and Training Program (FSET): 
The Food Stamp Employment and Training Program (FSET) is an employment and training program that provides job search, job search training, training and work experience to non-public assistance Food Stamp recipients. The program's role is to provide food stamp recipients with the opportunities that will lead to paid employment and decrease dependency on assistance programs. FSET Program

General Assistance:
California Welfare and Institutions Code Section 17000 states, “Every county and every city and county shall relieve and support all incompetent, poor, indigent persons and those incapacitated by age, disease, or accident, lawfully resident therein, when such persons are not supported and relieved by their relatives or friends, by their own means, or by state hospitals or other state or private institutions.”
