Adoption process

When we consider which family would be best for one of our children, it is important for us to have as much information as possible about a prospective family. A family must have an approved adoption home study, completed by a licensed adoption agency, to be considered for placement.  Being certified as a foster home or by a foster family agency is helpful, but not does meet this requirement unless the foster family agency is a licensed adoption agency.

If a home study shows that a family might be a good fit for one of our children, our worker talks to the family’s home study worker.  If they agree that it could be a good match, the family receives more information on the child so they may make an informed decision about whether to proceed to the next step.

If you are interested in a child in our Heart Gallery:

  • If you have an approved adoption home study, have your worker call Shasta County Adoptions at (530) 229-8290, or email us your home study.
  • If not, and if you live in Shasta County:
        a) attend an adoption inquiry with Shasta County to start the adoption process, or
        b) contact Lilliput Children's Services at 722-9092 to start the adoption process through a private agency.
  • If not, and you live in a surrounding county:
        a) contact California State Adoptions, (530) 895-6143 and inquire about starting the adoption process, or
b.) contact a private adoption agency in your area (e.g, Lilliput or Sierra Adoptions).
  • If you live further away:
Contact a public or private adoption agency in your area to start the adoption process.
