Every person who regularly transacts business in this state for profit under a fictitious business name shall:

1. File a fictitious business name statement in accordance with this chapter not later than 40 days from the time he commences to transact such business; and
2. File a new statement in accordance with this chapter on or before the date of expiration of the statement on file.

Fictitious business name statements shall be filed with the clerk of the county in which the registrant has his principal place of business in this state or, if he has no place of business in this state, with the County Clerk of Sacramento County.

Fictitious business name statements expire five years from the date filed in the office of the County Clerk.

The filing of the statement does not of itself authorize the use in this state of a fictitious business name in violation of the rights of another under federal, state, or common law (see section 14400 et seq., Business and Professions Code).

Fictitious Business Name statements filed in Shasta County are available for viewing either at a public workstation in the County Clerks Office or by sending a self addressed stamped envelope and a $5.00 search fee to the mailing address below.

Fictitious Business applications are accepted between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. The process takes 20 to 30 minutes per application.
